    Abstract

This paper presents the outcome of the feasibility study for a new collection scheme for post-consumer PVC waste in the Province of Rome commissioned by the Centro di Informazione sul PVC (the Italian association that groups producers and manufacturers of PVC and additives) within the framework of the European programme Vinyl 2010. The objectives of the study were: the evaluation of the volumes and the current management of PVC postconsumer waste in the Province of Rome; the definition/development of a new collection scheme dedicated to PVC wastes, including analysis of transportation costs to plants where the PVC wastes could be refined and grinded. With the implementation of such a scheme, the PVC today collected through existing plants could be made available for recycling. In absence of such a scheme, the PVC post-consumer waste is today generally sent to landfills.
